Did Hendon Hooker Lose Out on Heisman Nomination Because of Voter Agendas?

Jonas Knox: “Do you feel that in some cases people use injuries to disqualify people from the Heisman? A lot of people were saying Hendon Hooker should’ve been up for the Heisman over Stetson Bennett, and the come back to that would be, ‘well, he ended up getting injured.’”
Brady Quinn: “I’m in that campaign, and it’s not a slight to what Stetson Bennett did this year, but my opinion is based on what Hendon Hooker did for Tennessee. Tennessee was a part of that conversation for the top overall team. It’s absurd to think that he wasn’t the best player, didn’t have one of the best wins this year, and shouldn’t be a part of the Heisman conversation over Bennett. It’s unfair to Hendon Hooker to at least not give him a chance to be a part of all of that... There are so many agendas for the voters, too.”
LaVar Arrington: “It’s hard to win awards, man, and the agendas make it more difficult... In what world does Troy Walters win the Biletnikof with Peter Warrick in college? Warrick is one of the most electrifying players I’ve ever seen play in college, and I’ve never seen anything like that ’99 year. But because of a t-shirt, a jacket and some socks and accessories, you give it to Troy Walters? I’ll be honest, I won the Butkus and the Bednarik, and you look at a dude like Tyrone Carter. I believe Carter still holds the NCAA record for tackles.”

Today on 2 Pros and a Cup of Joe, Brady Quinn, LaVar Arrington and Jonas Knox discuss the College Football award winners, and dive into how voter agendas have a heavy influence on the nominations and outcomes of the process. Brady and LaVar share personal stories from their playing days, and offer their thoughts on Hendon Hooker’s Heisman snub. Listen to the full segment above!
